PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission must check each of the cabinet ministers to ensure they are clean.
Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW) president Jais Abdul Karim said MACC must be brave and reprove the government when necessary to ensure that the administration was truly transparent.
“MACC should not be hiding any case involving government leaders and work hard to raise Malaysia’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI),” he said, adding that the new MACC chief commissioner, Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, was the right man for the job as he was firm and had the credibility needed to take the commission to greater heights.
“Last February, Malaysia recorded the worse performance in five years with its ranking dropping to the 62nd place in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2017.
“MACC must come up with the country’s own (corruption) index and open a new chapter by revealing the corruption ranking of the ministries.
“He must settle the 1Malaysia Development Bhd and other high profile cases fast because the people want to see MACC’s ability to wrap up all such cases, especially the ones that involve key figures.”
